For the project, the client had a very clear idea of what they wanted the space to look like – clean, updated and wide open to the rest of the house. We took out an existing pantry closet that allowed us to open the kitchen to the front foyer and living room space. The old peninsula was removed allowing us to extend our perimeter cabinets down the wall and install an island instead.
With the open concept, they needed a place to house their laundry, so we stacked the washer/dryer unit, tucked it in the corner freeing up wall space for added storage and countertop.
We were tight on clearances, but we needed to have plenty of seating for the family of four. The island ended up having a large radius on the seating side which is highlighted by the beautiful veining of the Britannica Cambria countertop.
The Executive cabinetry selected has a clean shaker look but with a neutral gray color palette. We reflected the countertop color in the cabinets with white cabinets by the laundry, a light gray for the perimeter and a deep gray for the island. Glass tile backsplash reflects all the lighting in the windowless centralized kitchen.
The owners were both very nice and they really liked lead carpenter Mike Brennan (especially their dog, she loved Mike).
