Have you always dreamed of an open and welcoming kitchen in your home? There are many benefits to adding an open kitchen layout in your home from adding extra space or creating a welcoming area for guests and family to visit. Open kitchen designs also help with functionality, storage and efficiency. Here are some of the most popular open kitchen designs.
Most Popular Open Kitchen Layouts
A Linear Galley Kitchen
This kitchen layout is great if you have a large exterior wall. It allows you to maximize this wall for the sink, base and wall units and any appliances you may have. With a linear layout, it’s best to put the kitchen island directly opposite of the sink to block off the rest of the home. This allows you to have a working kitchen while feeling like it’s in its own room. If your home does a lot of entertaining or want a breakfast bar, this kitchen layout is a great option.
L-Shaped Kitchens
These kitchen layouts work well with small to medium sized kitchens. They only require one wall which will be cabinets and permanent fixtures, like a stove or sink. Most of these layouts also include a kitchen island which gives extra storage and counter space. If you want to create a larger looking kitchen, you can break up the “L” shape with a path through to a dining or living area which will open up the entire kitchen space.
U-Shaped Kitchens
U-Shaped kitchens are perfect for homeowners who need a large kitchen that is both functional for cooking but also a place to entertain and gather. This kitchen will give you maximum counter and storage space. For this design, your kitchen will need to have at least two walls adjacent to each other. If you have a large kitchen space, you can even add a kitchen island inside of the U-shape.
Our Recent Kitchen in Rotterdam, NY
This Rotterdam couple bought a great house in a great neighborhood, with a small dark kitchen. They knew what they wanted to do, bump out the back of the house 10 feet and open the area for a new kitchen with lots of natural light. They came to check out our Bennett showroom and spoke with one of our in house designers, Justina. Together with project manager George and architect Michael Perri they put their ideas on paper and created this bright open kitchen with a central island. Over the island, they placed a Velux skylight. Bennett added LED lights inside the skylight tunnel so they can still have a bright kitchen even on a dark night.
