Synthetic Decking Options: Composite Decking & PVC Decking

Now we’ll delve into the specifics of choosing synthetic decking materials. Functionality, resilience and integration can be found in composite and 100% PVC planks. Both materials are durable, low maintenance, resistant to cupping and warping and they’re available in a variety of patterns and colors. The following details of hybrid and plastic materials are the reasons why synthetics are the most popularized choice for extending your home.

Composite Decking & Plastic PVC Decking

Composite decking is made using wood fibers and strong plastics which blend together to create a great look and feel that lasts. These composites are dense, rather heavy and they stand firm against erosion. They’re treated through-and-through to resist everything from molds to splitting. Here are some more defining characteristics of composite decking:

  1. superior, smooth texture for non-wooden planks; it “feels” more organic than PVC
  2. dimensional “grain,” meaning that the decking looks more like wood
  3. composite planks  “absorb” as they aren’t overly stiff, meaning less creaking over time
  4. more resilient to weather and yet more affordable than many hardwoods
  5. fasteners and studs can be put in place without creating splinters or cracks

Plastic decking is void of wood fibers. You can’t get any more resistant to erosion than PVC. This kind of decking doesn’t require finishing, won’t split and is resistant to warping. They’re easily replaced in the case of serious damage, and out of all decking materials from which to choose, they’re the easiest to maintain throughout the year. Some defining characteristics of 100% PVC decking are its:

  1. optimal tongue-and-groove systems that keep planks tight and in-place
  2. variety of hues and patterns—virtually any color; they’ll seamlessly integrate with your exterior
  3. either solid or hollow infrastructure, giving you more options to suit your project’s budget
  4. thermal resistance, meaning that the expansion and contraction of other planks don’t apply
  5. strong, yet light in weight build, meaning replacement due to damage isn’t as tedious
